Done using a slightly modified version of Peter Schiffer's
convert_to_utf_8.sh script. The script was modified so as *not*
a "coding:" marker to the groff source. For now, we'll only put
that marker on pages that contain non-ASCII characters in the
rendered text.

Currently, Transparent Huge Pages work only with private anonymous pages (see
2011-09-19 01:27:54 +00:00
.BR mmap (2)).
The kernel will regularly scan the areas marked as huge page candidates
to replace them with huge pages.
The kernel will also allocate huge pages directly when the region is
2011-09-19 01:31:45 +00:00
naturally aligned to the huge page size (see
2011-09-19 01:27:54 +00:00
.BR posix_memalign (2)).
2011-09-22 02:13:46 +00:00
This feature is primarily aimed at applications that use large mappings of
2012-05-05 03:02:55 +00:00
data and access large regions of that memory at a time (e.g., virtualization
2011-09-22 02:13:46 +00:00
systems such as QEMU).
2012-05-05 03:03:08 +00:00
It can very easily waste memory (e.g., a 2MB mapping that only ever accesses
2011-09-19 01:27:54 +00:00
1 byte will result in 2MB of wired memory instead of one 4KB page).

Capitalization in .SS sections across pages (and sometimes even
within a single page) is wildly inconsistent. Make it consistent.
Capitalize first word in heading, but otherwise use lower case,
except where English usage (e.g., proper nouns) or programming
language requirements (e.g., identifier names) dictate otherwise.
