> >
> > > I would prefer "text" to "ascii" on the grounds that the meaning is more
> >
> > Agreed. Translated documents may not be "ascii", while it can still be
> > "plain text". So "text" is more appropriate in that case.
>
> We seem to have a consensus on text rather than ascii, good.
>
> > > apparent to computer neophytes, without any corresponding loss of
> > > precision. And, I would add "HTML", yielding:
> > >
> > > /
> > > usr
> > > share
> > > HOWTO - the HOWTOs in HTML format goes here

> > > PDF - same HOWTOS but as PDF
> > > PostScript
> > > SGML
> > > HTML
> >
> > Again, agreed.
>
> There is a slight problem with the last line, HTML. Originally
> I had thought to keep HOWTOs in HTML format at the root of the
> /usr/share/doc/HOWTO directory which is similar to the older
> /usr/doc/HOWTO. Should we instead keep these
> in /usr/share/doc/HOWTO/HTML ? In that case we would have to
> leave pointers in /usr/share/doc/HOWTO as to where the various
> parts have gone.
We could leave HTML in the HOWTO directory, I think. For more people,
HTML is the default. Or is that just me?
