<li><span class="rss:item">Prospective authors for The LDP are usually pointed to the excellent <a href="http://www.tldp.org/LDP/LDP-Author-Guide/html/" target="_top">LDP Author Guide</a>. However,
the guide is big and has a lot of details. David Laywer's <a href="http://lists.tldp.org/index.cgi?1:mss:8242:200501:claiepedajakajhoajgg" target="_top">Draft of very short Authors Guide</a> is up
for review, and intends to be a quick guide to new authors.</span></li>

<h1 class="sect1"><a name="updated-docs"></a>2. Updated HOWTOs, FAQs and Guides</h1>
<ul>
<li><span class="rss:item">Ari M&Atilde;&curren;kel&Atilde;&curren; published v2.0.29 of the <a href="http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Finnish-HOWTO/" target="_top">Finnish HOWTO</a>, with more details on
OpenOffice on Debian and the choice of fonts.</span></li>
<li><span class="rss:item">The v1.3 of the <a href="http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Samba-Authenticated-Gateway-HOWTO.html" target="_top">Samba Authenticated Gateway</a>, by Ricardo Alexandre Mattar, has
extended information on how to update your firewall configuration as users connect, including a link to a script that takes the pain off you for implementing this feature.</span></li>
<li><span class="rss:item">Howard Shane documents new models and drivers in v1.6 of the <a href="http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Webcam-HOWTO/" target="_top">Webcam HOWTO</a>.</span></li>
<li><span class="rss:item">Getting a bit old-fashioned but still wide-spread: IRC. In his <a href="http://tldp.org/HOWTO/IRC/" target="_top">IRC HOWTO</a>, Fr&Atilde;&copy;d&Atilde;&copy;ric L.W.
Meunier explains the basics and lists available Linux applications.</span></li>
<li><span class="rss:item">Kurt Swendson asked us to <a href="http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/archive/Beowulf-HOWTO.html" target="_top">archive</a> the existing version of the Beowulf
HOWTO, and replace it with a <a href="http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Beowulf-HOWTO/" target="_top">completely revised Beowulf-HOWTO</a>.</span></li>
<li><span class="rss:item">Peter Bieringer did a few grammatical correction and incorporated minor review comment in the IPv6 IPsec section for v0.48 of his <a href=
"http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Linux+IPv6-HOWTO/" target="_top">Linux + IPv6 HOWTO</a>.</span></li>
<li><span class="rss:item">Bryan Henderson updated the example module for 2.6 kernel and mentions dmesg as a way to see kernel messages in his <a href="http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Module-HOWTO/" target=
"_top">Module HOWTO</a> and also added info about the dangers of unloading modules. There is a link to the LKMPG.</span></li>

<li><span class="rss:item">Linux MIPS HOWTO<br></span>
<p><span class="rss:item">Ralf B&Atilde;&curren;chle announced the replacement of the Linux MIPS HOWTO by a <a href="http://www.linux-mips.org/wiki/index.php" target="_top">wiki</a>. He is looking
for advise on translation of the document.</span></p>

<li><span class="rss:item">XML Editors and conversions<br></span>
<p><span class="rss:item">Saqib Ali is working on a <a href="http://www.xml-dev.com/xml/editors.html" target="_top">list of XML editors</a> categorized by WYSIWYG, WYSIWYM and Text based. Secondary
categorization is done by dividing the editors in Freeware, OpenSource and commercial groups.</span></p>
<p>Recently we got a couple of documents written in OpenOffice, which needed to be converted to DocBook XML. There are a couple of possibilities to get there:</p>
<ul>
<li><span class="rss:item">First convert the file to HTML using OO features, then optionally run it through <b class="command">tidy</b> and then through <a href=
"http://freshmeat.net/projects/html2db/" target="_top">html2db</a>.</span></li>
<li><span class="rss:item">There is a tool which is called <b class="command">OOo2dbk</b> and that can be downloaded <a href=
"http://www.indesko.com/sites/fr/telechargements/ooo2dbk___du_docbook/view" target="_top">from http://www.indesko.com/sites/fr/telechargements/ooo2dbk___du_docbook/view</a>.</span></li>
