<li><span class="rss:item">The <a href="http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Scientific-Computing-with-GNU-Linux/" target="_top">Scientific Computing with Free software on GNU/Linux HOWTO</a> v1.2 is a joined
effort of Manoj Warrier, Shishir Deshpande and V. S. Ashoka. It lists the various available free software and also links on the world wide web to tutorials on getting started with the
tools.</span></li>
<li><span class="rss:item">Machtelt Garrels updated the <a href="http://www.tldp.org/LDP/Bash-Beginners-Guide/html/index.html" target="_top">Bash Guide for Beginners</a> to v1.4, which is a

<li><span class="rss:item">Christopher Devine produced v1.2 of the <a href="http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Encrypted-Root-Filesystem-HOWTO/" target="_top">Encrypted Root Filesystem HOWTO</a>, which has a lot
of minor corrections, new examples and updates on all version numbers of kernels and the likes.</span></li>
<li><span class="rss:item">The <a href="http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Samba-Authenticated-Gateway-HOWTO.html" target="_top">Samba Authenticated Gateway HOWTO</a> v1.2.1 has more examples on how to build a
firewall/gateway with rules set on a per-user basis, having the users authenticated by a Samba-based PDC.</span></li>
<li><span class="rss:item">On demand of the author, Brian J. Watson, the <a href="http://tldp.org/HOWTO/SSI-UML-HOWTO/index.html" target="_top">Creating SSI Clusters Using UML HOWTO</a> has been
moved to the unmaintained section. Brian J. Watson informed us that OpenSSI clusters of virtual UML machines were not as useful as they thought would be, so support for the UML "architecture"
deteriorated until it was decided to remove it from the OpenSSI project altogether. The people over at OpenSSI are contemplating, however, whether it wouldn't be more useful to write a HOWTO on
OpenSSI clustering in general.</span></li>
