LINUX GAZETTE MAIL
Customize ~/.muttrc, ~/.aliases, ~/.signature, ~/.localsig, ~/.procmailrc
as you wish. Keep these lines in ~/.muttrc:
my_hdr Reply-to: gazette@ssc.com
my_hdr From: Linux Gazette Editor <gazette@ssc.com>
If your mail is really from another address, mention it in your
signatures alongside gazette@ssc.com so people don't freak out about your
From: address being different from your envelope-from address.
Every few days, read and sort the incoming mail. lg@ssc.com is the
account; gazette@ssc.com is the public alias we advertise.
Do "cd ~/I" before running mutt. That way you can save messages for
the current issue by just giving the mailbox name (p). To save to the ~/Mail
directory for long-term stuff, prefix + or = (+mbox). To save to the incoming
mailbox, use ! (!). To save in another directory, give a path starting with
~ . or / (~/projects/MYPROJECT).
Put pending articles in "p".
Put News Bytes material in "bytes". You will send this to Mick Conry mid-month.
News Bytes material is Linux-related press releases or advertisements, articles
you'd rather link to than publish, Slashdot links, LWN links, etc. Don Marti's
Aspire To Crudeness (ATC) newsletter goes here too.
Put the Linux Journal Weekly News Notes (LJWNN) newsletter in both "ljwnn" and
"bytes". You will send "ljwnn" to Heather Stern a week before publication.
If Guido Socher sends HTML links for Linux Focus (linuxfocus.org), save in
"bytes" for Mick or insert them into News Bytes yourself.
Put messages describing a foolish/ingenious thing somebody did with their
computer in "foolish".
Put mirror-related messages in "mirrors" and send to me (Mike Orr) periodically.
(The mirror data is currently stuck in a MySQL database and I can't get the
Python driver installed. So tell anybody who asks that we are still accepting
mirror/translation entries, but it will be a while until mirrors.html is
updated.
Bounce Linux tech-support questions to linux-questions-only@ssc.com (The
Answer Gang).
Note that what looks like spam is sometimes News Bytes material. When in
doubt, save it in "bytes" and let Mick decide.
The mailing list software will also send you messages when an unapproved
message is pending on a mailing list, and when somebody (un)subscribes to
linux-questions-only, tag-admin or lg-translators. it also sends bounces
and stuff people sent to LISTNAME-admin or the software redirected to
LISTNAME-admin. You can delete bounces if you don't have time to unsubscribe
the addresses.
