>If you are not a novice in database management and have some
working knowledge of Linux, this HOWTO is for you!
We are not going to discuss the basics of relational database
management or <SPAN

>SQL</SPAN
> in this document, neither are we going
to elaborate on how to edit text files on Linux.
You can find as much information on these topics as you want in
numerous places.
This HOWTO is not an <SPAN

> guide, either: the
<SPAN
CLASS="APPLICATION"
>Ingres</SPAN
> manuals serve that purpose.</P
><P
>The objective of this HOWTO is that the reader can prepare for,
then implement the installation of <SPAN

Linux, through simple and understandable steps.
It also gives starting points for basic <SPAN

system and database administration.</P
